On March 26, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) Administrator Andrew Wheeler, a former coal lobbyist, announced the agency would not enforce basic air and water protections during the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic. Polluters should not get a free pass to pollute, ever. And we know it will hurt most in marginalized communities.
Here are the top 4 actions you can take this week:
- Sign the petition from our friends at the Center for Health, Environment & Justice to Tell Trump: Put the US EPA back to work!
- Tell us how you are doing. Take this short survey to tell CUFA how the crisis is impacting you and your loved ones and what issues matter to you most. The deadline to fill out the survey is Wednesday, April 29.
- Remember to vote! Contact the Board of Elections to get your absentee ballot for Ohio's April 28 election or pick up an application at a local Kroger store.
- As Congress takes up a fourth stimulus package, the time is now to push for a People's Bailout, centered around the needs of the many, instead of corporate bailouts. Learn more and take action to tell Congress we need a People's Bailout here.
What's happening this week:
CUFA is holding a weekly chat for members! Come tell us what's on your mind this week. Members: Check your email for details on how to join the chat.
If you haven't mailed the Board of Elections your application for an absentee ballot yet, time is running out! Your ballot must be postmarked by April 27 or returned directly to the Board of Elections by April 28 to count. Check out the details about the Ohio Primary election in the March 30 Activist Tool-kit.
Make sure you are counted in the Census! Federal funding and how much representation we get in Congress is determined by Census results, so help CUFA spread the word about the importance of filling it out. The Census is collecting responses over the phone or online. You can fill yours out here.
