Tell Commissioners: No Sewer Rate Increase

2020 Sewer Budget Hearings & Vote

Hamilton County Commissioners are considering the Metropolitan Sewer District's (MSD) 2020 Sewer Budget at two upcoming hearings and will vote Dec. 19 to approve or reject a proposed rate 1% sewer rate increase.

You can find budget documents here.

MSD is proposing a 1% increase, but is not starting any new projects in 2020 to fix our sewers. In fact, they are behind on work that was due to be completed at the end of 2018.

The new Customer Assistance Program to help seniors afford their sewer bills has extremely limited eligibility and currently only has a 5% enrollment.

Come tell the County Commissioners not to approve any rate increase until we have:

  • Fair sewer rates for everyone and comprehensive assistance programs to help everyone struggling with bills keep their water on.
  • A Phase 2 plan for Project Groundwork to fix our sewers in the neighborhoods most impacted by sewer backups and overflows.

Here are the dates:

Public Hearing: Thursday, Dec. 12 @ 1:00 PM

Public Hearing: Tuesday, Dec. 17 @ 1:00 PM

Vote: Thursday, Dec. 19 @ 6:30 PM
