Tell Gov. Dewine: Stop Utility Shutoffs

Many Ohioans are still not back to work as we continue to grapple with near-record unemployment. Our bills are piling up from being unemployed for months, and even when we go back to work, we can't catch up overdue bills. We need immediate assistance to bring utility bills current and in the meantime, we need Governor Dewine to make sure none of us will get our utilities cut off during a pandemic. But Gov. DeWine let the moratoriums expire as soon as he began allowing the state to open.

Sign onto the petition below to tell Gov. DeWine to issue an immediate moratorium on utility shutoffs, and include your story in the comments.

Dear Governor DeWine,

Ohioans continue to struggle with near-record unemployment and recovery from months of being off the job. Utility bills mounted during the stay-at-home order and we can't catch up. As Ohio utilities ask the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio to allow them to resume cutting off essential utilities for Ohioans struggling with the economic fallout of the pandemic, one thing is clear: you must put people before profits.

We are imploring you to immediately re-issue a moratorium on utility shutoffs until the pandemic is over and Ohio residents have the assistance they need to catch up on utility bills. Do not allow private or public utilities to deny us these essential services during a global pandemic, with no assistance for arrearages and no end in sight to the economic downturn.

This matter is of the utmost urgency. Please contact Communities United For Action with your response by July 31, 2020 at (513)853-3947 or [email protected]

Sincerely,
Communities United For Action and the undersigned Ohioans
