MSD puts the brakes on rate changes

Cincinnati, Ohio - On June 10, Communities United For Action and our allies met with Hamilton County's Impervious Surface Fee Stakeholder Working Group to get updated on the progress toward sewer rate restructuring. It was the third meeting of the working group created by the Hamilton County Commissioners October 24, 2019 resolution

In the meeting, the Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) laid out their process for deciding and implementing sewer rate changes, a process they say will not be complete until late 2023 at the earliest. Recommendations for rate changes could come as early as October 2021, but MSD contends that it would take them two full years to implement changes. CUFA is disappointed in this latest development, given that the Rate Affordability Task Force, another working group commissioned by Hamilton County, made a recommendation in 2016 to change fees to reflect the burden of impervious surface on our sewers.
