Before the Cincinnati Action for Housing Now coalitions turns in our nearly 12,000 signatures to ensure the Affordable Housing Trust Fund actually gets funded, we are holding a rally on August 2nd at 12:15 in front of City Hall and pushing City Council one last time to put a levy on the ballot. At 1PM we will go inside to speak to City Council and call on them to put our amendment to fund affordable housing on the ballot themselves and give voters the option to start funding affordable housing a year sooner.
When we turn in our nearly 12,000 signatures and our amendment goes on the ballot and passes this November, the city will have to levy and restore the earned income tax to be used for affordable housing. However, we will have to vote a second time in November of 2024 to implement that restored tax. But if 6 of 9 council members voted to put our amendment on the ballot themselves, both steps could be taken care of in one vote this November.
We need a lot of people to come out. Imagine how much good $40 to $50 million each year for truly affordable housing would do!
